FDR and the Fascist Plot to Overthrow Him

The significance of FDR's presidency is not well understood, but very fundamental to US politics since that period. At the time of FDR's presidency, America was struggling through the great depression and FDR chose to counter it by implementing social policies like the New Deal which created programs to help the struggling population with programs such as social security, medicare/medicade, and the GI bill which largely helped to shape the modern US middle class.

But doing so, FDR made a whole host of enemies that sought to overthrow him and undermine the policies he advanced, even if it was beneficial for the country. FDR was born into a very wealthy family and was labeled as "a traitor to his class" for the people he primarily angered was the economic elite of the country. The establishment at the time, believed that the remedy to the great depression was to do nothing and let economic collapse serve as a cleansing agent against the inefficient; but FDR implemented polices against this disasterous monetary model and created upward mobility for the working poor to establish middle class livelihoods.

The "economic royalist" of the US decided to look overseas for an economic model to replace FDR's New Deal...so they became very fond of Mussolini's and Hitler's economic fascist systems. Not too many people understand what fascism is economically and are too quick to just equate fascism with a brutal dictator, and although that's part of it, fascism as an economic system is what Mussolini called "corporatism." And that's when the public state merges with or is run by private corporate interests...

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of a government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power." - FDR

So with this basis in understanding, it's easy to see why the economic elite of the US, sided with the 20th century European fascists. And they did so to such an extent that they tried to create a fascist coup d’état to establish corporatism's primacy in America. Here's the story of "The Business Plot"
